ARGO on the parade – Norwood, SA
212 The Parade, Norwood, SA, 5067
Situated at the corner of Margaret Street and the Parade – ARGO – is surprising one of only a handful of ‘serious’ coffee places along this cosmopolitan shopping corridor, and has – from all accounts – built for itself a good reputation among the coffee public and parade frequenters. I ventured to ARGO on a Tuesday afternoon to catch up with another brother from another mother/colleague to discover the place was pumping. While not packed to the limit, the place was very busy and we managed to secure for ourselves a nice street side perch for our coffee and chat – allowing us to enjoy our beverages and take in the sights and sounds of the busy parade precinct. After a few moments wait – I managed to get served although making myself heard over the music was an effort, and not a few moments after making my way back outside – my ristretto arrived – with a slight pause before the two lattes. I attempted to quiz our waiter about coffee beans and milk type, but unfortunately he was unable to answer my questions, nor find someone who could – so based on what I could gleam, here follows my review:
Latte Quality – Excellent – dark and rich looking, although a bit on the weak side of things. Both Steve and I agreed that it was nice, but we had had better.
Ristretto Quality – Ok – very sweet beginning, but a bitter aftertaste – and was closer to a long short black than a true ristretto.
Cost – $3.50 for a latte – $3.00 for the ristretto.
Coffee Supplier – Veneziano Caffe (I think this is what the guy said – something about they roast it, but ‘Daniel’ selects the beans from Melbourne…..then he walked away) If someone who knows could clarify this for me….
Fairtrade – No indication.
Customer Service - - average – pretty much what you would expect – you go away neither blown away by the experience, nor complaining about it – although I would have appreciated a little more help in answering my questions. At other Adelaide coffee places after asking such a question I have had the barista come out and sit down to answer all my coffee questions….
Venue Suitable for:
- Quiet Chat, Deep and Meaningful, and/or Study and Reflection – For a Quiet chat and/or deep and meaningful this place is probably perfect – you could talk and talk and talk and no one would hear you from nearby – whether you could hear each other is another matter – probably too busy and noisy for study/reflection.
